Welcome
Phakwe is based in Pelindaba, outside of Pretoria, South Africa, and is an accredited training service provider. In this regard, Phakwe has a proven capacity to provide training in all of the different disciplines within the explosives field.
Phakwe was established in March 2016 to provide specialist explosives management services and solutions which included: auditing, risk assessment and analysis, training, and consulting in the explosives environment, with the purpose of delivering a wide range of solutions to their clients.
Phakwe has the necessary expertise in the full life-cycle management of military and commercial explosives, which includes: the safe disposal of unexploded ordnance (UXO), abandoned explosives, and unstable unsafe and post-shelf-life expired explosives.
This expertise was gained by its core members having served more than 20 years in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) coupled with responsibilities for peace support operations in various African states like Burundi and the DRC, and with the clearance of the Ammunition Depot detonation in Mozambique in 2007.

Phakwe works with independent contractors to increase capability and capacity at short notice.
For this, we maintain a database of technical experts that are available to contract in, based on the needs analyses done with prospecting clients.
- Our lean structure enables us to be highly mobile, affordable and allows us to readily and seamlessly integrate into our clients’ operations model, without compromising safety.
- The first option is always to evaluate the clients’ capability and capacity during an initial visit, conduct a gap analysis and if necessary, to increase capacity and bridge gaps with relevant experts.
- This applies to both explosives training and explosives consulting/auditing abilities.
